Stage Play —Sizhangji 

with Jiuren Drama Group

College admission has always been a heatedly-debated topic, either in China or overseas. In China, we have experienced the pains and sufferings in terms of different standards for Gaokao to get admitted into the first-tier college in Beijing, based on the province you are originally from. In the States, it is an ongoing investigation and charges are being filed out for the biggest college admission scandal in history. It is hard to be a college student. It is hard to be parents for college students, as well. 

What was the situation like for Beijing University in the 1920s then? The stage play “Sizhangji” unveils the admission process in history for us. College admission has never been simple. It brings people of different socio-economic statuses to a lively discussion on the stage. It serves as a lens, looking at money, humanity and the Confucian ideal. It mimics the Chinese society, both the past and the present. 

Intrigued by the idea to understand and love the land we live in, Beijing Foodies partners with the Jiuren Drama Group, to bring you the stage play “Sizhangji” (the Play will be all in Chinese) on Jun 1st 2019. If you are interested in understanding the Chinese college admission process in the 1920s and embracing the Chinese society from the sociology perspective, you are more than welcome to join in us on Saturday, Jun 1st, at the Western Area Theater, near Houhai Lake. This time let’s talk about the land we live in and the nation we love dearly. 

Apart from the Stage Play and the deep thoughts promised, you will also get to spend a wonderful time with the Crew. All Beijing Foodies members will be invited to a post-play party, where you can share you feelings and thoughts directly with all the actors, actresses, directors and writers. 

You will also get to meet and connect with fellow Beijing Foodies, who happen to be cute, funny and arts-lovers with a global mindset. Talk about arts, drinks and the society with your new friends on the International Children’s Day with Beijing Foodies!
