Event Brief

About the Film
In Nostalgia for the Light, the filmmaker, now in his 70s, revisits Chile’s political past and the revolution’s thwarted hopes. The extreme dryness in the desert makes this place the best locale on earth both for astronomical observation and for archaeological excavation. Watching the stars, whose light shine from thousands of light years ago, and walking in the desert marked with fossils from the past, the filmmaker reflects on the luminous aspirations from the past and their violent suppression, and ask how we live, excavate, and search for light in today’s world.
