2017 is coming to a close and what a year its been for Arkham. Since our re-opening in June at our new home on Julu Rd, we’ve hosted some of the best international and local acts including；Goldlink, Brodinski, Knoxledge, Tokimonsta, DJ Q, A$AP Nast, Desiigner, FKJ, 池田亮司(Ryoji Ikeda), Lil Akin & Visudy, Baauer, ZHU, MØ, and Machinedrum etc.

To celebrate the new year, we’re adding heat to Shanghai’s icy winter with Bohan Phoenix. Rapping between Chengdu and New York, his multilingual rhymes will keep the dancefloor heated this new years. With standout tracks “JALA (加辣)” and “Motivasion”, Bohan is going to get the party started with support from Arkham friends Dazzy, Amber Akilla, DJ Toy and Max Shen. 

With a take over from Shanghai art collective Daliah, we’re creating a visual experience like no other. Get 2018 off to a spicy start with us this new years eve!

Bohan Phoenix was born in a Chinaʼs Hubei province and immigrated to the US at 11, unable to speak a word of English. He took a liking to hip hop instantly and learned the language quickly by rapping along with just about anything he could get his hands on. Today Bohan is an anomaly in music- a fixture in both the US and Chinese music scenes, whose lyrical blend of Mandarin and English reflects his dual identity and aim to bridge the gap between the two cultures he calls his own. 

Despite courtship from big budget labels or TV game shows known for manufacturing the cookie cutter pop stars of the past, Bohan continues to push towards the future on his own terms, boldly cultivating a sound of his own, and in turn, the future of hip hop in China and 

beyond. 

This year, Bohan embarks on his 15-city headline JALA Tour, hitting all major and secondary markets in China as well as Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo. The tour is presented in partnership with Beats by Dre, YouKu and XiaMi and follows the Chinese New Years release of his JALA EP, whose title track and video premiered with The FADER and 88rising.

The release features two of Chinaʼs most promising musical exports: Chengdu trap stars the Higher Brothers and founder of Chinaʼs signature underground electronic label Do Hits, Howie Lee. JALA was met with critical acclaim and was included on Spotifyʼs Fresh Findsand Apple Musicʼs Hot Tracks, garnered a spotlight on Revolt, interviews on Bandcamp Daily, Magnetic Mag and a Boiler Room and Fendi performance during New York Fashion Week alongside Migos, 21 Savage and Metro Boomin. 

Bohan has also performed at Modern Skyʼs signature Strawberry Festival and on tour, features opening performances from Asiaʼs leading artists including Higher Brothers, Doughboy, 阿克江, SALU, JP and the Wavvy, Visudy, PACT and Gunknown of The Boring Room, the Beatween crew, Harikiri and more. In 2016, Bohan also toured China with on VICE CHINAʼs Motherland Tour alongside Howie Lee, Mike Gao and Nehzuil, followed by a solo headline tour in Fall

Dazzy是来自上海本土的新生代DJ,曾经有过音乐电台背景的她有着对音乐多样 而新锐的灵敏度,作为DJ的她也能将多元化的曲风完美混搭,用Hip hop, House, Bass, Grime, Jercy club等掌舵舞池。因此也获得了与Snakehips, GoldLink, Romder- ful, Sosupersam, Killa Crew等国际嘉宾同台的机会。并多次被上海时装周, adidas Originals,Monki,Nike Women,Wake Up Bikes等品牌及活动合作。

同时也作为沪上知名派对文化创意组织S.T.D独立音乐派对以及Arkham的一员, 努力为中国电子乐粉丝们带来更多值得期待的电子乐现场。 

DAZZY has been a staple in Shanghai's club scene for the past 3 years. Having played support for acts include Snakehips, GoldLink, Romderful, Sosupersam, Killa Crew etc. Also she has been invited to deejay for brand include10 corso como, adi- das/NIKE opening party,Monki, Wake Up Bikes. etc. In Shanghai, now she's one member of S.T.D. and Arkham, playing shows at some party venues, while organiz- ing parties for S.T.D. and Arkham. 

For Allyson Toy aka DJ TOY, it always came down to music. That love was also her cultural saving grace – a bond that prompted her to go East where she is currently on tour in China with rising Asian American rapper Bohan Phoenix.

She’s second generation Chinese-American, and like most in that position, grew up trying to reconcile the intersection between what everyone around you represents and that pull to your heritage. Through DJ-ing she’s weaved a love song to her cultures – both the West and East.

Over the past months, it saw her recognizing the potential that lay abroad with the music industry, where she’s now pushing to move the conversation to a reciprocal place, though not without the challenges that lie with an untapped market.

Born in Australia, Amber Akilla has taken her talents across the Pacific from Hong Kong to Beijing, Shanghai and Tokyo. Having played support for acts including Flava D, Chimpo, Sinjin Hawke, Venus X, Sarah Farina, Brodinski, Tokimonsta, A$AP NAST, Lil Akin & Visudy, Uniiq3 and Little Simz, her dynamic selection sees sets moving between hip hop, grime, house and modern dance music.

She’s recently worked with photographer Christina Paik on her Hong Kong Meufs exhibition, spun for YohoGirl! and Adidas. Her curatorial skills have also been used for Empire Shanghai, the W hotel and Central Studios.

Max Shen出生于上海，运营Arkham俱乐部，他创立了音乐组织4x4x4x4，开展Techno/House跳舞运动在中国的发展，引进当代电子音乐艺术家文化交流。同时Max也是亚洲先锋组织Asian Vibes的Dj，参与跨届演出艺术家陈天焯（ASIANDOPEBOYS），艺术家张鼎“龙虎斗”系列，021艺术博览会X没顶画廊等代代艺术活动，参加“草莓” “MIDI” “摩登天空” “INTRO”等音乐节和“Boiler Room”中国站的演出！并将签约意大利电子音乐厂牌Digital Traffik，在欧洲展开一段新的冒险。暗深邃的Bass line结合科技之声融入舞池。

Max Shen was born in Shanghai. He runs Arkham club and set up electronic music group 4*4*4*4. He carrys out the development of house/ techno dance in China and introduces current electronic music artists exchanges and acts as the DJ of Asians Vibes for Asia techno vanguard group. He is also regular visitor of current art-multimedia activities for  interdisciplinary performance artist Tian ZhuoChen, Zhang Ding’s series of “Enter the Dragon”, 021 Art Fair and Madeln etc and music festival for “Strawberry” “Modernsky” “Intro” “Boiler Room China“etc. He will sign Italian music label Digital Traffik and star his new journey in Europe.

Early on, Max was deeply affected by Sasha & John Digweed. He began to show as DJ in 2000 and got crush on British avant-garde of the day for John Digweed’s bedrock label company, Dave Seamman and Steve Lawler etc. Minimalism influnced the music trend of world and Max Shen in 2007 through time and change. He has insisted on the house/Techno music of Germany and Middle Europe combining dark and deep Bass Line and voice of technology into stage from Drity House to Dub Techno for ten years.
