Meetup | CHIC: Swiss Design Meets Chinese Resources
Hide
China Hardware Innovation Camp (CHIC) is a unique opportunity for students to experience the steps from idea to prototype of a product innovation in team-work. CHIC represents an interdisciplinary approach, combining knowledge and practical elements of engineering, design and business. It therefore offers a great learning possibility for students keen to push the boundaries of their discipline.
This is the 3rd year of CHIC program, and it has attracted students from top universities in Switzerland to join this year’s program. The students are from ECAL (School of Design and Arts of Lausanne), HEC Lausanne (Business School of Lausanne) and EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne).
We’re happy to have students from CHIC program staying at Chaihuo x.factory to work on their projects for this whole week. And this Friday evening, we’ll host a meetup, inviting the students for a show-n-tell, sharing their stories behind their projects, the experience they have gained in the process of making etc.
>>>> Team ilanga
The World Health Organization recognizes that 90% of melanoma, the most fatal skin cancer, is due to sun exposure. And childhood is a key period to prevent health issues linked to sun exposure and damages from the sun are often underestimated. And this device Ilanga is a great tool for children to discover the risks linked to the sun in a playful way.
This team behind Ilanga is made up of 5 Swiss students from different backgrounds, including
Adrien: Mechanical Engineering (EPFL)
Antoine: Micro Engineering (EPFL)
Dimitri: Industrial Design (ECAL)
Thomas: UX Design (ECAL)
Loïc: Information Systems (HEC)
>>>> Team Livelo
Water scarcity is increasing in many places around the world: 50% of the global population is living in a place where water stress might become a dramatic issue in the next decades. Therefore, knowing how much water, especially groundwater, is available to use in these regions is crucial. Many organizations are trying to carry out an extensive groundwater level monitoring, but means are usually not convenient or too expensive. This is why team Livelo has been challenged by the International Red Cross to design a low-cost and reliable groundwater level data logger.
The multi-disciplinary team behind Livelo is made up of 6 Swiss students from several backgrounds, including:
Elise:Media Interaction Design (ECAL)
Yohanna: Industrial Design (ECAL)
Viktor: Information Systems (HEC)
Rémi: Micro Engineering (EPFL)
Tobia: Energy Management and Sustainability (EPFL)
Nicolas: Mechanical Engineering (EPFL)
>>>> Team Trobak
Food-waste is a global issue, every year, there are 1.3 billions tons of food thrown away around the world. In Hong-Kong there’s a tremendous amount of 3300 tons thrown every day, 160,000 tons every day in China, while millions of people are starving and the planet is coughing to say the least. This is why the team came up with Trobak; they wanted to give the opportunity to each one of us to help to fight this issue at our own scale, because every small gesture counts.
Team Trobak is a multidisciplinary group composed of 5 students from Switzerland:
Erika: User Experience (ECAL)
Dylan: Industrial Design (ECAL)
Valérie: Electronic Engineering (EPFL)
Pierre: Mechanical Engineering (EPFL)
Rihab: Business (UNIL)
>>>> Team Todoo
Nearly 1% of the world’s population is affected by autism. One of their most frustrating issues is related to their difficulty to focus on a single task. And team Todoo has a mission to help autistic children, who need their parents’ supervision to avoid feeling stressed and anxious during the day. They come up with a solution: a robust, customizable watch for autistic children to display the activities that their parents set up for them in an app.
The team Todoo is composed of students from different disciplinaries:
Anthony: Mechanical Engineering (EPFL)
Hélène: Media and Interaction Design (ECAL)
Khalil: Computer Science (EPFL)
Luca: Information Systems (HEC UNIL)
Lucie: Micro-engineering (EPFL)
Manon: Industrial Design (ECAL)
