Since the Garden of Square Pagoda opened in 1982, which was designed by Feng Jizhong, the research and discussionon this work has undergone a process of change for almost 40 years. From tradition to modernity, from form to style, from space to details, the vicissitude of research discourse reveals the multiple viewing perspectives.

The starting point of the research came from the misplacement between the experience at the scene and the text research, which led to the attention to the integrity of design in this work. In order to facilitate the discussion, this lecture will divide the process of establishment about the integrity into two different stages. The entry point will focus on the site processing and terrain operations. By sorting out the design process of the Garden and interpreting the design factors behind the real scene, this lecture will attempt to build an understanding framework about the complex relationship between design operations and results in the Garden of Square Pagoda.
