Thus, Mevia can monitor each individual pill taken and feedback instantaneously to those that need to be informed. The real-time connection allows for communication to the different stakeholders in ways they wish and we can change and adapt reminders depending on the intake and therefore minimize any risk of notification fatigue.

Based in Taipei, Taiwan, iXensor empowers data-driven healthcare by leveraging smart mobile devices, optical technologies, and advanced algorithms. The startup’s solution enables instant clinical tests for people with diabetes (HbA1c, glucose), cardiovascular diseases (lipid panel), and those trying to conceive (luteinizing hormone). The waiting time for test results is significantly reduced from three days to as little as 3 minutes, enabling on-the-spot advice for effective behavioral changes. In addition to making health check-ups more accessible in decentralized settings (e.g. clinics, pharmacies, private homes), it also allows the data to be synchronized to the cloud in real-time, making analytics and interventions easy and timely.

Pear Diagnostics

Cancer treatment is trial and error. Pear Diagnostics is a Canadian startup that analyzes patients’ tumor samples to identify the best cancer treatment for them. We combine a proprietary microfluidic device and biomimetic hydrogels to mimic human tumors in vitro and test potential treatments in order to measure efficacy phenotypically and rank the various treatment options. We are addressing cancers that cannot be targeted using genomics; cancers with no targetable biomarkers or cancers requiring combinations of drugs. The first indication for clinical trials is triple negative breast cancer.
