-Junior Public speaking
Junior Public Speaking is a fun speaking opportunity for our young competitors, many of whom are performing for the first time!
Persuasive speeches should range from 3 to 5 minutes.
Eligibility: Students in grade 5 or 6 who have taken Foundations of Narratives or are currently taking Foundations of Persuasion
Round 1 Prepared Topic: “A habit that keeps us healthy”
Round 2 & Finals Prepared Topic: “The best way to protect the environment”
Round 3 Impromptu Topic: Students will be given 3 questions and asked to choose one to answer. Students have 5 minutes to prepare their answer.
Original Oratory is a self-written speech with the intent to inform or persuade the audience on a topic of significance using evidence, logic, emotional appeals, and humor.
Eligibility: Middle and high school students who are familiar with Original Oratory, specifically students taking Competitive Events, Intermediate or Advance Original Oratory, and Elite Speech.
Topic: A memorized 5 to 10-minute speech on a researched social issue with a unique or counterintuitive perspective.
Impromptu speaking challenge students to inform and entertain without any internet or prepared materials. Students have 7 minutes to select a topic, brainstorm ideas on no more than one notecard, and deliver the speech. Students are suggested to prep for 3 minutes to make a 4-minute speech.
Eligibility: Middle and high school students who are familiar with Impromptu Speaking, specifically students taking Competitive Events, Intermediate or Advance Extemporaneous Speaking, and Elite Speech.

Round 2 Topic & Prompt Style: Beauty (Words)
Round 3 Topic & Prompt Style: Food (Pictures)
Finals Topic & Prompt Style: Courage (Quotes)
