Life is a continuous process of forming bonds: with people, goals, objects, animals and ideals. We feel a sense of protection and safety, as well as vigor and inspiration, from these emotional connections. In collaboration with Business Ecology, Shanghai Project invites you to explore the ways in which these critical bonds can be made stronger. The two-part screening includes the Norwegian documentary, “Siblings are Forever” (2013) by director Frode Fimland and the Swedish short film, “Animals I Killed Last Summer” (2012) by Gustav Danielsson, followed by a guest lecturer and audience feedback.
The Screening will include the following movies:
“Siblings are Forever” (2013)
Directed
byFrode
Fimland
Siblings Magnar (73 y/o) and Oddny (70 y/o) never left their childhood home. They run the family farm as it has been by many generations before them. There, time seems to stand still, almost as if it is running out. “Siblings are Forever” is a poetic documentary about a brother-and sister who live as many Norwegians did fifty years ago. The couple is far from wealthy, but their pleasures do not derive from the rapidly modernizing world surrounding them, rather from the nature within which they coexist.
“Animals I Killed Last Summer” (2012)
Directed byGustav Danielsson
Leo is a young boy who kills small animals. His slaughters are becoming increasingly more frequent. Johan, Leo’s father, is clueless about how to deal with his son’s strange habit. This is a macabre, yet comical story, of a moral dilemma that has no easy answers. Director Gustav Danielsson was the winner of the Stockholm International Film Festival’s short film scholarship 1 km Film.
*Both documentaries have Chinese subtitles.
